AboutTon Župančič worked for fifty-five years and was one of the most distinguished masters of the Slovenian word in Slovenia throughout the first half of the twentieth century. He enriched our literature most with his poetry, but his contribution to drama, short prose, essays, and especially translated literature is also very important.
Župančič's extensive work reveals an artist and intellectual of European proportions who grappled with the key issues of contemporary life in a completely personal way, while at the same time his work also reveals the extremely complex fate of the small Slovenian nation, which experienced the most dramatic moments in its entire history in the first half of the twentieth century.
