The great-grandfather is the only man in Rosie's family, as her father and grandfather left the family. She lives in New York, but her Jewish roots originate from Hohenems, Austria, where Jews and Christians live, as does the author of the book. Rosie's great-grandfather tells stories from a distant land, to which the girl adds something with her childish imagination. They are often related to biblical stories, such as the one about the Great Flood, and are often quite true. Sad, happy, funny and nostalgic storytelling is mixed with the reality of Rosie's life. The book is supplemented with a glossary of Jewish terms. Michael Köhlmeier and Monika Helfer are a married couple and both writers. (Adapted from Bukla)
