Miki was looking forward to nothing more than the summer of 1992. A long, hot summer. In the fall, he would be a high school student, his brother Neno would return home from college and teach him how to drive, and his father would retire early. But then came the ones with guns and bombs. Miki's family was put on a bus. After a long journey, Miki and his parents ended up in a refugee center by the Croatian coast, while his brother was in Serbian captivity. Although he was a third-class citizen, Miki still found friends and his first love in the seaside idyll. But his main solace was music. First the music his brother Neno listened to, then heavy metal at the popular Ukulele club.
Ukulele Jam is a story about the instinct for survival in the hate-filled Balkans. Although it is a novel, it cannot be hidden that it is based on the personal experiences of the author, who went from a young refugee to a respected Danish writer. (taken from Bukla.si)
