After many years of studying and working abroad, forensic scientist Anil returns to the chaotic state of war in Sri Lanka. She is now employed by the UN and is supposed to help uncover political murders. However, she cannot work as she is used to. She suspects that she is constantly being monitored and that she is not safe from anyone – neither herself nor her discoveries. However, things are no different for the locals, whose stories we follow alongside Anil. No one knows who they can trust. And yet, war changes everything, not necessarily for the worse. The events in the novel are, in the author's words, "...the situation we all live in, in Africa, Yugoslavia, South America. This is a very contemporary event that is all around us." A novel for anyone who likes to look for parallels between events in books and everyday current events.
