In this moving novel, the author recounts the story of a Sudanese woman named Bakhita, born in Darfur. In her early years, she is kidnapped by armed men from the Dazhuj tribe. She travels with a caravan on an endless slave route, robbed of her dignity and everything that is humanly valuable. She is left at the mercy of people. Eventually, she forgets her name. After a long time, she leaves the caravan, but her life is left to the will of various owners. When the slave trade is banned in Sudan, the course of her life changes. In the end, she ends up in Italy, strong despite everything, full of love for everything. Reading her story hurts. If the language had not been so beautiful and the confession so sensual and convincing, the book would have been closed long ago.
