The book concludes the trilogy, which began with the parts I Sat and Wept by the River Piedra and Veronika Decides to Die. In all three parts, the events are limited to a week. According to the author, seven days is enough time to make important decisions and respond to the challenges that life offers. The story is set in a small and poor village, where everyone knows everything about everyone and where life flows on a regular track every day, without surprises. However, with the arrival of a stranger in the village, everything changes in a single day. He puts the previously honest villagers before a great test, with which he wants to find the answer to the question of whether a person is essentially good or bad. In exchange for ten golden bars, he asks the villagers to murder someone from the village. Will they remain honest or will they succumb to temptation and human greed? Will good or evil prevail?
