The novel Muriša is a continuation of the first part of Lainšček's Pannonian trilogy I Will Separate the Foam from the Waves. The story is set in pre-war Murska Sobota, a scene of strong political passions. Julian Spransky, a young engineer, participates in the construction of a bridge over the Mura River, which means revenge on the river and liberation at the same time. He is burdened by the mysterious disappearance of his mother, who followed the call of love to the waves, while his father searches for her inconsolably and dies in delusion. Julian's closed heart is awakened by a letter from Zinaida, which soon makes him feel that she is destined for him. However, the hope that they will protect each other does not last long. The girl's parents oppose the relationship, so they plan to escape. The story ends tragically. The charm of the novel is the multifaceted nature, metaphoricality and the distinct emotional charge of the people marked by the Mura River.
