Orchestra for Kisses is Lainšček's twentieth anniversary novel. It takes place in a winter marked by severe cold, the January 6th dictatorship of King Aleksandar Karađorđević, and a great economic crisis. The novel follows the story of nurse Tereza, whose husband Pavlek, a Drava raftsman and folk musician, dies under suspicious circumstances. The young widow Tereza finds herself on the verge of survival after losing her job at the Ptuj hospice because, in the manager's opinion, she helped the poor too generously. In her distress, she accepts the help of the wealthy Mr. Goldinski, who gets her a new job in Muretinci and also helps her find a cottage. In exchange for this calculated help, the benefactor demands Tereza's physical devotion. All the while, Tereza is consumed by her husband's unexplained death. She decides to take fate into her own hands, but in the process becomes a murderer. The crusaders take her under their wing and she is never convicted for this act.
