Anna Wittula is a Styrian writer who grew up in Maribor, Ptuj and Ljubljana. She developed her writing talent in the last years of her life. At that time, the novel Strojarska hiša was also written, which is set in Ptuj, during the 19th century. It is a family saga about the master mechanic Henrik Wundsam and his children. The immense joy when a son is born after seven daughters is extinguished when the baby is found dead. The death of the heir is a dark sign for the mechanic's house, but the way out of the situation is the adoption of the son of a deaf-mute hunchback. The boy brings joy to the house, but as he grows up, he becomes a difficult and spoiled child. Later, he is blinded by his love for the beautiful Angela, which consequently causes the downfall of the entire family.
