The Cliff of Tanios is the most famous work by Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf, who won the prestigious Goncourt Prize. It tells the story of the growing up of a boy named Tanios, who was born in the 1830s in a Lebanese village, in a region tired of hatred and constant fighting. As he grows up, Tanios is confronted with the possibility of his illegitimate birth, revealed in the nickname given to him by the villagers. He tries to find himself and overcome the division, resentment and hatred. When he flees to Cyprus, he becomes entangled in political upheavals and, upon his return, one day mysteriously disappears from a cliff above the sea.
