The story of a family that has experienced better times is shown through the lens of its youngest member, a boy on the verge of his teenage years. Numerous family members crowd into a small space. The grandfather makes fun of everyone, especially the boy's perpetually drunk father, the mother makes a drama out of every situation, the uncle chases after women, and two young aunts are fascinated by film actors. Without a sense of tragedy, they made it through pre-war bankruptcy and interwar poverty, and in their own, very special way, they also confront post-war ideology.
