Lizzie McPhee, a television journalist and mother of two, has always believed that brains are more important than beauty, until she realizes that she is about to turn forty. She loses her job as a television journalist because of her age. Her husband gets a job at a plastic surgery clinic and starts looking at young flesh. So she sees no other way out than to subject herself to the torture of plastic surgeons and beauty salons. Kathy Lette's book is a summer read, full of humor and (sometimes only apparent) lightness. I recommend it to anyone who likes reading in the style of Bridget Jones's Diary and literature that reveals the problems that women are increasingly dealing with in modern times.
