The Celje Youth Singing Festival (MPF) is the oldest and most important international competition of youth choirs in Slovenia; it can be placed alongside festivals in Nantes (FR), Neerpelt (BE), Olomouc (CZ) and Arezzo (IT). It is also one of the most brilliant cultural events in Celje. It began in 1946 as a mass gathering of local youth choirs; its initiator and long-time co-organizer was Jurče Vreže, who led the festival until 1979, when the organization was taken over by the Institute for Cultural Events Celje. Today, the main organizer of the festival is the Institute Celeia Celje.
