Ingrid Rosenfeld is a sweet and sensitive professor of Slovenian and an avid reader. After getting involved with two narcissistic and sadistic men in a row, she decides to settle down in the calmer waters of single life with her equally angelic mother. The happiness of a happy ending lies in the fact that she can afford to set up a large library in her new home. Thus, life, which continues unabated, finds refuge in literature. The novel carries an unmistakable moralistic note: in the conclusion, the reader is directly invited to immediately turn to a morally regulated life, because "deep, pure and clear love" is true nobility and love for life itself.
